The traditions of Chado, The Way of Tea, must be seen, heard, felt and shared. A mission of Chado instructor, Florizel Soryu Yasuhara, is to share her love of The Way of Tea to any and all with a willing and diligent heart and attitude. This two-day seminar is your chance for hands-on instruction on learning to make tea in the traditional and non-traditional sense. All attendees will be given a new purification cloth and fan, and partake each day with tea and sweets.
Florizel is an Urasenke instructor in San Diego. She has been studying Chado, the Japanese Way of Tea, ongoing now for more than 20 years. Florizel is a San Diego native, but was first introduced to the Japanese Way of Tea during her college years in Northern California. Shortly after graduating, she received a one-year scholarship for intensive and immersive study of Chado in Kyoto, Japan, under the instruction of the Urasenke Grand Tea Master. Since returning from Kyoto, Florizel has been teaching Chado in San Diego at the Japanese Friendship Garden in Balboa Park and in private lessons at her home. Her mission is to pass on the Grandmaster’s motto of Peacefulness Through a Bowl of Tea, which today is needed more than ever.
