10am – 1pm
at The Den on Laurel Street
205 Laurel St. #104

Learn the Japanese folk art of Temari (手まり) ball making! Temari (hand-ball) was originally made in many households for children’s play. The stitch adornments traditionally carry well wishes and good omens, which will be discussed in class. The Temari are made with naturally dyed (by Yoriko) cotton thread and rice husks. Yoriko will bring in some colors made from San Diego plants.
This particular style of Temari ball making requires intermediate sewing/stitching skills. If you are a novice sewer and still want to make Temari, Yoriko will guide you with simpler styles.

Yoriko Yamamoto is a plant dyer, weaver, and a Walfdorf handwork teacher in San Francisco.
